Cozy Neutrals * Modern Flare

neutral furniture

Welcome to a design of “only” neutral colors! If you’ve explored my website, this is a little different from some of my other portfolio posts. :) ammiright?! The word “only” generally has a negative connotation, but it can truly be a great gateway word! I “only” want to change a few things. I “only” want to paint this one wall. I can’t commit to color, I “only” want neutrals. There can actually be so much impact pulled from this little word “only”. In some cases, the word “only” gets thrown out the window and will turn into a full blown, wonderful, exhilarating domino effect of projects. That is what us designers L-O-V-E! So, bring on the “Onlys”.

If onlys and justs were candies and nuts, then everyday would be Erntendankfest
— Dwight Schrute

If you love neutrals and no color, you can have it! Design is the challenge that brings me personal joy in life. Everyone has their own, unique style but not everyone knows how to capture that in their homes. That is why it is ok if my style is different than Bob’s, than Larry’s, than Nancy’s (I will, of course, always add my own little twist to ensure you get the true Brittanya Effect!). We all want and deserve to represent ourselves in the place we live, that is what brings US peace and the true feeling of “being home”.

*Cozy neutrals:

The definition of neutrals: neutral means without color, such as beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, and shades of white.

Neutrals can be beautiful, stunning showstoppers just like any designs that involve color. They can bring a sense of organic warmth, and coziness. Texture peppered throughout a sea of neutrals will create such a breathtaking impact on the whole motif. Textures can create the overall mood for a space by opening different senses. As your eye scans the room, you get an idea of how a surface feels, then use touch to experience it firsthand. The use of different textures takes your senses on a journey that can only be captured when surrounded by organic neutrals.

The details are not the details, they make the design.
— Charles Eames

*Modern flare:

The definition of modern: interior design style characterized by a monochromatic color palette, clean lines, minimalism, natural materials, and natural light.

Design is subjective. Everything will shine differently in different design styles. If it is the focal point of one, it can be the cheerleader for another. Modern style is no different. In this case, the monochromatic color palette of neutrals paired with the modern furniture takes this design to a level that makes it a true custom design. Switching the dark accents with lighter accents activates the “mood” of the design. The scale of “mood” is measured by the depth of a “color”. If you don’t want a moody room, change the darker accents for lighter ones. and “That’s all I have to say about that”. #free.design.tip I can go into a whole thing about moody design, maybe I’ll save that for another time?
